Former HS phenom Mikey Williams to transfer to Sacramento State

Sacramento State continues to add star power to its college basketball program after former prep phenom Mikey Williams indicated that he has committed to play for the Hornets next season.As first reported by ESPN, Williams will transfer to Sacramento State, which has made headlines over the past month by hiring former NBA point guard Mike Bibby as the team’s head coach followed by the recent hiring of Hall of Famer Shaquille O’Neal as the general manager.A 6-foot-3 guard, Williams was rated as a five-star prospect early in his high school career, buoyed by his viral dunks and YouTube mixtapes. As a freshman at San Ysidro High School in San Diego, Williams averaged 29.9 points and broke the school’s single-game scoring record with 77 points. He was named the MaxPreps National Freshman of the Year.Initially committed to Memphis, Williams never played a game for the Tigers and transferred to Central Florida following an April 2023 arrest for allegedly firing a gun at a car full of people at his home.
