The Tennessee Titans host the Indianapolis Colts this Sunday at 12 pm. These two teams have had vastly different starts to the regular season. The Titans have started slow with a 0-2 record, while the Colts are currently undefeated at 2-0. This Sunday, we will see if the Titans can stop the red-hot Colts and get their first win of the season.
Titans Week Two Recap
Last Sunday, the Titans lost to the Los Angeles Rams. The Titans went into halftime with a 13-10 lead, but they couldn’t stop the Rams’ offense in the second half and ended up losing 33-19. In week one, the Titans struggled with penalties and sacks; this week, the Titans had the same struggles. On Sunday, the Titans gave up 5 sacks and committed 10 penalties. Part of the Titans’ offensive line struggles had to do with starting right tackle, JC Latham, being out with a hip injury, and starting right guard, Kevin Zeitler, leaving early with an elbow injury. Both players are currently listed as questionable for this week’s game, which is something to keep an eye on as we get closer to Sunday.
On Sunday, the Titans struggled to slow down Matthew Stafford and the Rams’ passing attack. Stafford threw for 298 yards and two touchdowns. He averaged 8.8 yards per passing attempt and had a 69.7% completion percentage. The Titans’ failure to slow down the Rams’ offense ultimately allowed the Rams to build a large lead in the second half and take control of the game.
Colts Season Recap
The Indianapolis Colts have been the most surprising team of 2025 so far. Led by their new quarterback, Daniel “Indiana” Jones, the Colts have won their first two games. In week one, they blew out the Miami Dolphins 33-8. In week two, the Colts faced the Titans’ week one opponent, the Denver Broncos. This game came down to the very last second. The Colts initially missed the game-winning 60-yard field goal, but there was a penalty on the Broncos that moved the Colts fifteen yards closer and gave them another chance to make the kick. Spencer Shrader made the 45-yard field goal to win the game 29-28. A big reason that the Colts have done so well in their first two games is their highly productive offense. The Colts had 418 offensive yards in their first game and 473 offensive yards in their second game. The Titans must slow down this offense to give them a chance to win on Sunday.
Colts Running Game vs. Titans Defense
A key to this game for the Titans will be limiting the Colts’ rushing attack. The Colts’ star running back, Jonathan Taylor, ran for 165 yards last week against the Broncos. This gave Daniel Jones more short-yardage opportunities and opened up their play-action attack. The Titans must limit the run to make the game more difficult for Daniel Jones. Last week, the Titans gave up 149 yards on the ground against the Rams. They will need to be better up front this week to slow down the Colts’ offense.
Special Teams Stars
The biggest bright spot from Sunday’s game was how well the Titans’ special teams unit played. Chimere Dike had a punt return touchdown called back because of a controversial blindside block penalty. Even with that play called back, Dike had 120 kick and punt return yards on seven returns. Dike also had a big 71-yard kickoff return in the Titans’ first game against the Broncos. Another big play from Dike could be a huge help for the Titans as they try to pull off the upset this week. Joey Slye has also had a great start to the season on the Titans’ special teams unit. Last Sunday, Slye knocked down all five of his field goals and extra points, including a 57-yard field goal late in the third quarter. Having a reliable kicker is a nice luxury for a team that has struggled to get into the end zone.
Rookie Duo
Titans’ rookie wide receiver, Elic Ayomanor, had a big game Sunday against the Rams. Ayomanor pulled in four receptions for 56 yards and a touchdown. Two of his catches were big highlight plays on the same drive. First, he had the one-handed bobbling catch on the sideline, then he had the diving catch in the end zone on Cam Ward’s first touchdown pass. I expect Brian Callahan to involve Ayomanor more in the offense each week as he adjusts to NFL competition. Ayomanor and Ward seem to have a strong connection, which will be exciting to watch for the rest of the season. Cam Ward has shown a lot of potential through his first two games. The box score hasn’t shown the story of how good he has been. Ward is the only number one overall pick to not throw an interception in his first two starts. Ward has shown traits of being an elite quarterback; he needs a little more help from his offensive line and receivers for the Titans’ offense to start putting more points on the board.
