Week Two Preview: Titans vs Rams

The Tennessee Titans will play their first home game of the 2025 season this Sunday as they host the Los Angeles Rams at 12 pm. In week one, the Titans’ defense kept the game close, but they ultimately fell short on the last drive, losing 20-12. Cam Ward and the Titans’ defense showed promising signs against one of the better teams in the NFL.

Takeaways from Week One

Titans Week One Performance

The Titans’ defense looked very good last weekend. They were able to force four turnovers and hold the Broncos’ offense to only twenty points. However, there were several areas where the Titans struggled. The biggest issue was penalties; the Titans committed thirteen penalties and gave up 131 penalty yards. That is the most penalties out of any team in the NFL in week one. Another issue that the Titans faced was the Denver pass rush. Cam Ward was sacked six times last Sunday. That is the most sacks given up by any team during week one. Even with these issues, the Titans still had a chance to tie the game on their final drive. Ultimately, this drive fell short due to costly drops by the Titans’ receivers. Despite these struggles, the Titans were able to keep the game competitive against a team that is projected to be one of the better teams in the NFL.

Rams Week One Performance

The Los Angeles Rams started their 2025 season with a 14-9 win over the Houston Texans. The Rams’ defensive line made moving the ball difficult for C.J. Stroud and the Houston Texans. Stroud threw for only 151 yards, gave up one interception, and had zero touchdowns. On the offensive side of the ball, the Rams’ star receiver, Puka Nacua, had a very good game against a talented Texans secondary. Nacua pulled in ten receptions for 130 yards, even though he missed a short amount of the game with an injury. Limiting Nacua and moving the ball on offense will be keys for the Titans if they want to pull off the upset in week two.

Things to Watch in Week Two

Rams Defensive Line vs. Titans Offensive Line

As earlier mentioned, the Tennessee Titans gave up a league-high six sacks in week one. This unit will have another tough test in week two against a young and talented Rams defensive line led by the 2024-25 defensive rookie of the year, Jared Verse. Braden Fiske and University of Tennessee graduate, Byron Young, are also impact players that the Titans will have to gameplan around. Another thing to keep an eye on is the Titans’ Right Tackle, J.C. Latham is currently listed on the injury report after suffering a hip injury during their week one game. Backup tackle, Olisaemeka Udoh, struggled when filling in for Latham during week one. Latham is still listed as questionable for Sunday’s game, but hopefully, he will be healthy and ready to play in time for the game. The Titans need all the help they can get stopping the Rams’ edge rushers.

Ridley Potential Bounce Back Game

Calvin Ridley had a quiet week one for the Titans. He only pulled in 4 receptions for just 27 yards, and had some crucial drops late in the game. A big reason that Ridley was so quiet in this game was that he was being shadowed by the 2024-25 defensive player of the year, Patrick Surtain. Surtain lined up across from Ridley on 84% of his routes during week one. The Los Angeles Rams do not have a cornerback anywhere close to Surtain’s level, however they did look good in week one. Last week, the Rams held the Texans star receiver, Nico Collins, to just three receptions for only 25 yards. We’ll see if Ridley can have a better game in week two now that he won’t be shadowed by an All-Pro cornerback.

Rams Passing Attack vs. Titans Secondary

Ever since Sean McVay took over as head coach of the Rams in 2017, the Rams have had a dynamic passing offense. Cooper Kupp won the receiving triple crown in 2021 playing in this system. In 2023, Puka Nacua broke the record for most receptions and receiving yards by a rookie. McVay’s offenses have always put up great numbers passing the ball. This season the Rams have two receivers that the Titans will need to focus on, Puka Nacua and Davante Adams. The Titans’ secondary played very well in the first game, however, stopping Nacua and Adams will be a much more difficult task. We’ll see how they fare against two of the best receivers in the NFL.
