Titans vs Bengals: Week 12 Primer

By Jawuan Williams

The Titans (7-3) look to continue their dominance as the Cincinnati Bengals (6-4) come into town in this week 13 matchup. Kickoff is Sunday, November 27th at Nissan Stadium.  Start time is at 12:00p.m. CDT.

This game will mark the 78th occasion in which the franchise has clashed with Cincinnati, dating back to 1968. In Titans/Oilers history, the only opponent the team has faced on more occasions is the Pittsburgh Steelers (80 games). The Titans lead the series with the Bengals 40-36-1, but the Bengals have taken the last two matchups.

Most recently, they met in the playoffs on Jan. 22 with a trip to the AFC title game on the line. The Bengals triumphed 19-16 after kicker Evan McPherson connected on a 52-yard field goal as time expired. The Bengals defeated the Kansas City Chiefs the following week and would represent the AFC in Super Bowl LVI against the eventual champion Los Angeles Rams.

Titans Dominated On Both Sides Of The Field

The Titans outplayed the Packers on both sides of the field as they go into Green Bay and defeated the Packers, 27-17. Quarterback Ryan Tannehill passed for 333 yards and two touchdowns, while the NFL’s rushing leader, running back Derrick Henry (1,010 yards in 2022), had a rushing touchdown and a passing touchdown. The Titans scored on their opening drive and never trailed, ultimately prevailing by a score of 27-17.

Tight end Austin Hooper was on the receiving end of two touchdown passes—a four-yarder from Henry and a 16-yarder from Tannehill. Hooper tied his career high for touchdown receptions in a game.

First-round rookie wide receiver Treylon Burks registered his first career 100-yard game, leading the team with seven receptions and 111 yards. He had a 43-yard catch in the first quarter to set up a touchdown and a 51-yard catch in the fourth quarter to help seal the victory.

The Titans won for the second consecutive week and for the seventh time in eight games. They are the NFL’s only team with a 7-3 or better record over the first 10 games in each of the last three seasons.

THE BENGALS

After defeating their divisional opponent the Pittsburgh Steelers last Sunday, The bengals are looking to continue their dominance against the Titans. With Chase health being in question, Quarterback Joe Burrow must find a way to get his young wide receiver core on the same page.

3 Key Topics For The Game

1. PRESSURE on Burrow

The Bengals OL underwent a major makeover after the super bowl run in 2021, but the results haven’t been much better. The Titans must put consistent pressure on Bengals QB Joe Burrow.

2. Rumble Henry Rumble

The titans have shown that they will not deviate from their philosophy, so you can expect a heavy dose of Derrick Henry. They must be efficient and rack up big plays on the ground to help move the offense for QB Ryan Tannehill.

3. The Pass Game

When the two teams play at Nissan Stadium on Sunday, it will have been 10 days since the titans put together the most complete offensive performance of the season, and in order to help make the run game more effective, QB Ryan Tannehill must continue the growth of the passing game. Which means a healthy dose of WRs Robert Woods and Treylon Burks, as well as TEs Austin Hooper and Chigoziem Onkonkwo.
