The Tennessee Titans return home this weekend to play the Kansas City Chiefs. To many people’s surprise, this is a Chiefs team that is already eliminated from the playoffs and will be without star quarterback Patrick Mahomes. The game will start at noon on Sunday at Nissan Stadium.
Titans Week Fifteen Recap
Last weekend, the Titans lost 37-24 to the San Francisco 49ers. In this game, the Titans looked ok at times on offense, but struggled heavily on defense. The 49ers were able to easily move the ball through the air against the Titans’ defense. This has been a problem for the Titans this season, as their top three cornerbacks to start the season are not on the active roster.
One of the big highlights from the game was Jeffery Simmons catching his second career touchdown reception. That play was made after Cam Ward scrambled outside of the pocket and found Simmons standing alone in the end zone.
Kansas City Chiefs Season Recap
The 2025 season has been very uncharacteristic for the Kansas City Chiefs. During the Patrick Mahomes era, the Chiefs have grown accustomed to playing in the Super Bowl every season; however, this year, the Chiefs find themselves eliminated from the playoffs heading into Week 16. The Chiefs’ lack of a running game and inability to protect their quarterback have been reasons for their inconsistent results this season. In recent years, the Chiefs have always been fighting for a playoff spot, so it will be interesting to see what kind of effort they put on the field on Sunday, having already been eliminated from the playoffs.
Patrick Mahomes Injury
Last weekend, Kansas City Chiefs superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes tore his LCL and ACL in a loss to the Los Angeles Chargers. Adam Schefter has reported that this will be around a nine-month recovery process, so Mahomes should be back in action around the start of next season. Gardner Minshew will step up and start this weekend against the Titans in place of Mahomes. Minshew has proven to be a serviceable starter over the course of his NFL career; however, he is still a significant drop-off from Mahomes.
Chris Jones vs Jeffery Simmons
This Sunday’s game will showcase two of the top defensive tackles in the NFL in Chris Jones and Jeffery Simmons. These two players have a close relationship as they both played college football at Mississippi State. Jones played at Mississippi State from 2013-15, and Simmons played from 2016-18. These two players have since enjoyed much success in the NFL and have played many big games against each other, including the 2020 AFC Championship game.
Cam Ward vs Chiefs Defense
As the season winds down, the main thing that the Titans are focused on is the progression of Cam Ward. Ward has had an up-and-down season, but has definitely shown a lot of promise. The last couple of weeks, Ward has done a great job of extending plays with his legs. Look for Ward to continue to do that this week against the Chiefs.
