The Tennessee Titans host the Seattle Seahawks this Sunday at noon. The Titans are coming off a loss in which the Texans kicked a game-winning field goal. On the other side, the Seahawks are coming off a hard-fought loss against their division rival, the Los Angeles Rams.
Titans Week Eleven Recap
Last weekend, the Titans and Texans game came down to the wire. In the fourth quarter, Cam Ward led the offense on an eleven-play, 95-yard drive to score a touchdown and tie the game with 1:35 left. Unfortunately, the Texans were able to move the ball into field goal range and win the game off a 35-yard field goal from backup kicker Matthew Wright. Penalties were a big issue for the Titans in this game. They committed nine penalties, including several pre-snap penalties. These penalties held back their offense, as they were not able to score a touchdown until the end of the game.
Seahawks Season Recap
The Seattle Seahawks have had a great start this season. They are currently 7-3, which puts them in the top wild-card spot in the NFC. The Seahawks are led by a great passing game. Seattle is first in the NFL in yards per pass play with 9.3 yards per pass play. Seattle has also only given up 10 sacks this season, which is best in the NFL.
The Seahawks are led by quarterback Sam Darnold, who joined the team last offseason as a free agent. Darnold signed a three-year, 100.5 million dollar contract last spring, but he has proved this season that he is worth every penny. Seattle has played well on both sides of the ball, so they should be a difficult opponent for the Titans this Sunday.
Jaxon Smith-Njigba vs Titans’ Secondary
Jaxon Smith-Njigba is putting up video game numbers so far this season. Smith-Njigba currently leads the NFL with 1,146 receiving yards this season. On top of that, Smith-Njigba is fourth in the NFL with 72 receptions this year. Smith-Njigba has been tough for any defense to stop this year.
Trading away Jarvis Brownlee and Roger McCreary, and losing L’Jarius Sneed to injury, has left the Titans short at cornerback. Last weekend, the Titans struggled to guard Texans’ wide receiver Nico Collins. Collins put up 9 receptions for 92 yards and a touchdown against the Titans’ secondary. Smith-Njigba may be in for a big game if the Titans are not able to make adjustments.
Titans’ Receiver Depth
At the end of last Sunday’s game, the Titans found themselves short at wide receiver. Calvin Ridley played one snap in the game before he suffered a season-ending injury. Chimere Dike got hurt on a punt return, and Elic Ayomanor also got banged up during the game. That left the Titans relying on Van Jefferson and Mason Kinsey at the wide receiver position.
For this weekend’s game, Ayomanor and Dike are both listed on the injury report; however, their status for the game has not been announced yet. The team also announced that receiver Bryce Oliver has been moved to IR and will miss the rest of the season. All of these injuries could open things up for undrafted free agent Xavier Restrepo to be elevated to the game-day roster this week. Restrepo was Cam Ward’s number one target at Miami, and many fans have been advocating for him to see the field all year. This week could be his opportunity with all of the injuries at wide receiver.
Titans Home Losing Streak
The Tennessee Titans have not won a home game since November 3rd, 2024. That is over a full year without a Titans win at Nissan Stadium. The ownership and team cannot be happy with this stat. The Titans have four more home games left this season to end this streak, including the game this weekend. Ending this losing streak has to be the top priority for the Titans. Ownership cannot be happy with losing every home game for an entire year, especially with a brand new stadium under construction.
