The Tennessee Titans travel back home this week to play the Los Angeles Chargers in Nissan Stadium at noon this Sunday. This will be the last Titans game before their week ten bye. The Chargers will be coming into this game off an extended week because they played on Thursday Night Football in week eight.
Titans Week Eight Recap
In week eight, the Titans played against the Indianapolis Colts, who are currently having their best start to a season since 2009, when they went to the Super Bowl. In this game, the Colts took control early and never looked back. Colts running back Jonathan Taylor had 174 yards from scrimmage and three touchdowns in the game. Taylor became the first player to score three touchdowns in three straight games against the same team. The Titans, playing with several key defensive players injured, had trouble stopping the Colts’ offense all game.
Chargers Season Recap
The Chargers are off to a 5-3 start this season and currently sit in 2nd place in the AFC West. They have impressive wins over Denver and Kansas City, but have questionable losses against the Giants and the Commanders. Currently, the Chargers are in the race for winning their division, but will more than likely end up competing for a wild-card spot. That being said, the Chargers are a very competitive team that needs every win that they can get to get into the playoffs. This will be a difficult matchup for the Titans.
Justin Herbert vs Titans Defense
Currently, the Los Angeles Chargers are first in the NFL in passing yards. This has come as a surprise to many people because their offensive coordinator, Greg Roman, has historically led run-first offenses. Due to injuries to running backs Najee Harris and Omarion Hampton, the Chargers have resorted to a pass-heavy offense. Luckily for Herbert and the Chargers, they have a plethora of pass catchers who make this style of play work. Keenan Allen, Ladd McConkey, Quentin Johnston, and Oronde Gadsden are all having very productive seasons so far this year.
The Titans may struggle to stop this offense on Sunday. This season, the Titans are giving up 7.8 yards per pass attempt. They rank 28th in the NFL in that category. On top of that, cornerback L’Jarius Sneed is on the IR, and the Titans have traded away two cornerbacks this season in Roger McCreary and Jarvis Brownlee. Their three best cornerbacks headed into the season are all currently not on the Titans’ active roster. I would expect big games out of Herbert and the Chargers’ receivers.
Chimere Dike in New Offense
After the departure of Brian Callahan, Chimere Dike has had two very productive weeks. In week seven, Dike had four receptions for 70 yards and a touchdown. Then last week, Dike caught seven passes for a career high 93 yards. Mike McCoy’s “simplified” offense has allowed Dike to get more opportunities downfield. Under Callahan’s system, Dike would only get targets on screen passes around the line of scrimmage. McCoy has diversified his game and used him all over the field.
Upcoming Trade Deadline
The NFL trade deadline is approaching on November 4th. The Titans have already made a move this week, shipping off Roger McCreary and a 2026 6th-round pick to the Rams for a 2026 5th-round pick. According to sources around the league, the Titans may not be done making moves. It is believed that Cam Ward and Jeffery Simmons are untouchable, but they are shopping everyone else. Tony Pollard, Calvin Ridley, and L’Jarius Sneed are all players who have been thrown around in trade rumors in the last couple of weeks. As Titans fans, this is definitely something to monitor this weekend and at the beginning of next week.
