The Tennessee Titans travel to Las Vegas this weekend to face off against the Raiders. The Titans are coming off their first win of the season and looking to get their second straight win against a struggling Raiders team. This will be the Titans’ final game on their three-week road trip.
Titans Week Five Recap
The first three quarters of the Titans’ game last week did not look good; however, things turned around quickly in the fourth quarter. After being down 21-6, the Titans scored 16 unanswered points to win the game 22-21. The Titans got some help, with three very costly fumbles by the Cardinals. Titans fans should be uplifted by the fact that when the team needed a few big plays to get down the field and into field goal position, Cam Ward was able to deliver. Ward completed big passes to veterans Chig Okonkwo and Calvin Ridley to get the team into field goal range. Ward showed in this game that he is not afraid of big moments.
Raiders Season Recap
After the Raiders won their first game of the season, they have lost 4 straight games. Last game was particularly rough for the Raiders, as the Colts beat them 40-6. Geno Smith has gotten off to a very slow start this year. He leads the NFL with 9 interceptions thrown through 5 games. The Raiders currently have a passer rating of 75.6, which is the 5th lowest in the league.
Brock Bowers Injury
The Raiders’ star tight end, Brock Bowers, is currently listed as “week-to-week.” Bowers suffered a PCL injury and bone bruise in week one, but chose to play through the injury in weeks 2-4. Bowers and the Raiders staff decided to sit him during week 5 in hopes that he could recover from the injury. Bowers’ status for the game on Sunday has not been announced, but this is something to keep an eye on for Titans’ fans. Last season, Brock Bowers set the record for most receptions by a rookie and for most receiving yards by a rookie tight end. He would be a huge loss for the Raiders if he were not able to suit up in this game.
Chimere Dike AFC Player of the Week
Titans return specialist Chimere Dike was named the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week for week 5. Dike racked up 169 total return yards last Sunday and had a 65-yard kickoff return in the second quarter. Dike currently leads the NFL in return yards by a large margin. Dike has 748 total return yards this year, and Myles Price has the second most with 553 return yards. Dike has been a bright spot this year for the Titans and is quietly starting to build up some Pro Bowl buzz.
Glimmer of Hope
Last week’s win was much needed after the Titans’ first four games of the season. Instead of falling to 0-5, the Titans are 1-4 and have a winnable matchup against a struggling Raiders team. The comeback win over the Cardinals could be the spark that this team needed to turn the season around. I do not expect the Titans to start contending for the playoffs, but this team could win a game or two that they are not supposed to and start being more competitive in big games. As a fan, this would be more fun to watch than the product that they put on the field in the first four weeks.
