The Tennessee Titans travel southwest this weekend to play the Arizona Cardinals. The Titans are still seeking their first win of the season in this week five game. Tennessee needs to find a way to spark its season after a very disappointing start to the year. We will see if they can turn things around this weekend against the 2-2 Cardinals.
Titans Week Four Recap
To put it simply, last Sunday’s game was tough to watch for Titans fans. Last weekend, the 0-3 Titans faced the 0-3 Texans, and the Texans won the game 26-0. This was the first time the Titans had been shut out in a game since 2019, and it extended their losing streak to 10 games, dating back to last season. Tennessee struggled to move the ball in this game, only racking up 175 total yards of offense. This is a game that Titans fans will quickly want to forget about. The only real positive was Jeffery Simmons recording four tackles for loss and a sack in this game. He is the first Titans player to have four tackles for loss in a game since 2008.
Cardinals Season Recap
The Arizona Cardinals have had an up-and-down start to the 2025 season. After starting 2-0, the Cardinals have lost two straight weeks due to game-winning field goals. In week three, they lost to the 49ers after Mac Jones and the offense drove down the field to kick a field goal in the final seconds. Then last Thursday night, Kyler Murray threw a touchdown to tie the game with 28 seconds left, but the Seahawks moved the ball 26 yards in four plays to kick a 52-yard field goal to win the game. After these two last-second losses, and with an extended break between games, the Cardinals will be hungry for a win on Sunday.
Cam Ward’s Post Game Press Conference
Last Sunday, the Titans’ first overall pick, Cam Ward, expressed his frustrations with the team’s performance so far this season during his press conference. After the game, he said, “If we keep it a buck right now, we’re ***. We’re 0 and 4. At this point, we have nothing to lose. We’ve dropped a quarter of our ******* games, and we’ve yet to do anything. We have to lock in, especially myself. From the offensive line, from the defensive line, from the special teams, to all three phases, we have to play together. We have not played together this year yet.” Ward’s desire to win is evident in this statement, and he is clearly unhappy with the team’s performance so far. While he is upset, Ward has also taken accountability, which is a good sign from a young quarterback. We will see how the rest of the team responds to this statement from their quarterback next weekend.
Titans Offense vs Cardinals Defense
The Arizona Cardinals are very average in most statistical categories this year. The one thing that they are good at is defense, and especially their run defense. The Cardinals have only given up 74 points this year, which is 6th best in the NFL. The Cardinals have also only given up 384 rushing yards, which is 10th best in the NFL. This is not good news for the Titans because they have been struggling on offense this year. The Titans are last in total points scored and 30th in total yards. When you compare the stats of these two units, the numbers are definitively in favor of the Cardinals, but anything can happen on any given week.
Penalties
One of the biggest issues for the Titans this year has been the number of penalties that they are committing. This season, the Titans have 149 more penalty yards than their opponents. That is last in the NFL in net penalty yards. The Cardinals, on the other hand, have been better about staying away from penalties this year. They have 89 fewer penalty yards than their opponents this year. They are third-best in the NFL in net penalty yards. This is a stark difference between the two teams. This Sunday will be a good challenge to see if the Titans can stop committing penalties and start playing more disciplined football.
