This weekend, the Tennessee Titans travel to San Francisco to take on the 49ers. The 49ers are currently 9-4 and battling for a playoff spot in the NFC. The Titans just won their second game of the season and are looking to start a winning streak.
Titans Week Fourteen Recap
Last Sunday, the Titans picked up their second win of the season in Cleveland. The Browns couldn’t convert a two-point conversion to tie the game with 1:09 left in the 4th quarter. The final score ended up being 31-29. Surprisingly, the Titans’ success on Sunday came through running the ball. The run game has been a struggle for the Titans all year, but in this game, Tony Pollard ran for 161 yards and two touchdowns. This production on the ground propelled the Titans to their second win of the year.
San Francisco 49ers Season Recap
So far this season, the 49ers have been one of the most injury-riddled teams in the NFL. Their two best defensive players, Fred Warner and Nick Bosa, both went down with season-ending injuries. On the offensive side of the ball, Brock Purdy, George Kittle, Ricky Pearsall, and Jauan Jennings have all missed weeks due to injury. On top of all that, Brandon Aiyuk has yet to play this year due to a torn ACL that he suffered in October of 2024.
Despite all of these injuries, the 49ers have found ways to win this season. They find themselves at 9-4 fighting for a spot in the playoffs. These last couple of weeks will be crucial for the 49ers. Their next two opponents will be the Titans and the Colts. After those games, the 49ers will play the Bears and the Seahawks to finish the season. Those two games will be crucial for the 49ers, because those are two of the teams that they will be fighting with to get a spot in the wild card. Every game for the 49ers will be crucial as they try to clinch their spot in the playoffs.
Christian McCaffery vs Titans Defense
The one player that has remained healthy for the 49ers this year is Christian McCaffery. McCaffery is having one of the best seasons of his career. Running the ball, he’s been solid, but his work in the passing game has been what has set him apart this year. McCaffery is fifth among all players in the NFL in receptions. McCaffery also has more receiving yards than any other running back in the NFL this season. Right now he has 806 receiving yards this season, which is over two hundred yards more than other running back in the NFL. The Titans will have to be ready for the 49ers to line up McCaffery all over the field on Sunday.
49ers Pass Rush vs Titans Offensive Line
This season, the 49ers have sacked the quarterback fewer than every other team, getting only 16 sacks so far this year. The Titans have allowed the second-most sacks in the NFL, giving up 49 sacks this season. The Titans have been getting better recently, as they only allowed one sack last Sunday to the Browns, who have the league leader in sacks, Myles Garrett. We will see how the Titans do on Sunday against a much worse pass rush.
Can Tony Pollard Back Up Big Performance?
As mentioned earlier, a big reason for the Titans’ win against the Browns was the performance on the ground from Tony Pollard. Last game was by far his best game of the year. The Titans will need a similar type of performance from him on Sunday in order to get another win. We will see how the 49ers defend him on Sunday.
