Two teams still on the outskirts of the Western Conference playoff picture will collide when the Nashville Predators host the San Jose Sharks on Monday night.

The Predators (38-32-10, 86 points) trail the Los Angeles Kings by one point for the second wild card in the West with two games remaining. The Kings have played one fewer game, but should they finish tied, the Predators would hold the first tiebreaker of regulation wins (currently 28-21).

The Sharks (37-34-8, 82 points) are still alive in the wild-card race, but just barely. They would need to win their final three games and get a lot of help.

San Jose saw its playoff hopes damaged by a six-game losing streak (0-5-1) in March. It rebounded with four straight wins but has lost three straight (0-2-1).

On Saturday, the Predators kept pace with a 2-1 home win against the Minnesota Wild. Steven Stamkos scored his 40th goal of the season and had an assist. Matthew Wood also scored, and Justus Annunen made 21 saves.

The Predators are 4-1-1 in their past six games as they continue their push.

"It's fun playing these meaningful games," Stamkos said. "It sucks we let it kind of slip out of our control, but all we can focus on now is the next two. We're fortunate they're at home."

Nashville hosts Anaheim in its season finale Thursday.

Stamkos reached the 40-goal mark for the second time in three seasons and the eighth time in his 18-year career.

"Obviously, the goal-scoring is what you're seeing, but everything else, he's such an amazing leader on our team," Predators captain Roman Josi said. "It's just so cool to have a guy like him on the team where you know in big games he's taking charge."

Josi returned after missing one game because of an upper-body injury. He played 27:10 and had three shots on goal.

Meanwhile, San Jose led Vancouver late in the third period Saturday, but the Canucks tied it with three minutes remaining and won it in a shootout, 4-3.

Igor Chernyshov scored twice for the Sharks, and Yaroslav Askarov made 38 saves.

"Just some of our details, I would say, is the biggest thing," Sharks coach Ryan Warsofsky said, "Details in our D zone ... In previous games, there were some other issues."

Macklin Celebrini had two assists to reach 110 points (42 goals, 68 assists). He recorded his 29th multi-point game of the season, the fourth-most in a single season in San Jose franchise history.

Regardless of how the season ends, the Sharks will have turned things around after finishing 20-50-12 a year ago.

"Nobody expected us to be in this position we're in, except all of us," Celebrini said.

The Sharks finish with games at Chicago on Wednesday and Winnipeg on Thursday.

All three of the games in these teams' season series have come since March 24. Filip Forsberg had a goal and two assists to help the Predators to a 6-3 home win that night. On April 4, the Predators lost a 3-0 lead at San Jose. However, Ryan O'Reilly broke the tie in the third, and Nashville prevailed 6-3. Forsberg scored twice.

Steven Stamkos had a goal and an assist for the Nashville Predators in a 2-1 win against the visiting Minnesota Wild on Saturday afternoon.

Matthew Wood also scored and Justus Annunen made 21 saves for Nashville (38-32-10, 86 points), which stayed within a point of the Los Angeles Kings for the final wild-card spot in the Western Conference.

The Predators have two games left and the Kings have three.

Michael McCarron scored and Jesper Wallstedt made 20 saves for Minnesota (45-23-12, 102 points), which came in four points behind the Dallas Stars for second place in the Central Division.

The Predators took a 1-0 lead at 15:01 of the first.

Stamkos pulled the puck out of a corner in the Minnesota zone, then passed it from below the goal line to Luke Evangelista. He passed it back to Stamkos, who scored on a wraparound for his 40th goal of the season.

It's the eighth time Stamkos has reached the 40-goal mark in his 18 NHL seasons.

Nashville stretched the lead to 2-0 at 6:34 of the second.

Wallstedt saved a shot from the right face-off circle by Nick Perbix and the rebound fell at the feet of Stamkos, who made a short backhand feed to Wood that set him up for a score from the inside edge of the right circle.

McCarron scored on a rebound off Jonas Brodin's shot to cut it to 2-1 at 6:54 of the third period.

With the Wild nearly locked into their playoff spot, they rested forwards Joel Eriksson Ek and Mats Zuccarello and defenseman Jared Spurgeon.

Nashville captain Roman Josi returned to the Preds' blue line after he was a late scratch in Thursday's 4-1 loss to the Utah Mammoth because of an upper-body injury.

Annunen was coming off a 5-0 win against the Anaheim Ducks on Tuesday, the first shutout of the season for Nashville.

A three-person appeals panel has ruled against the NFL Players Association, which contended an arbitrator incorrectly ruled there wasn't enough eviden...

A three-person appeals panel has ruled against the NFL Players Association, which contended an arbitrator incorrectly ruled there wasn't enough evidence to prove collusion when negotiating quarterback contracts in 2022.

The ruling, handed down Friday, upheld the January 2025 decision by arbitrator Christopher Droney in a case that focused on whether teams participated in a collusion plot while in negotiations with NFL players, but specifically with Kyler Murray, Lamar Jackson and Russell Wilson.

In its ruling, the panel acknowledged the NFL was "improper" in inviting teams to "participate in collusion." However, the panel said it had not been proved by the evidence that some or all of the teams actually followed through with collusion.

The NFLPA has argued that the five-year $230 million, fully guaranteed contract given to Deshaun Watson in March 2022 by the Cleveland Browns was the impetus needed for owners to collude and that none of the three quarterbacks in question received similar guarantees.

Murray, now with the Minnesota Vikings, signed a five-year, $230.5 million extension with the Arizona Cardinals on July 21, 2022, with $159 million guaranteed.

Jackson, the MVP-winning quarterback of the Baltimore Ravens, inked a five-year, $260 million extension on April 27, 2023. The contract includes $185 million in guarantees.

The Denver Broncos acquired Super Bowl-winning quarterback Russell Wilson in a trade with the Seattle Seahawks and signed him to a five-year, $242.5 million extension, with $161 million guaranteed, on Sept. 1, 2022. After two subpar seasons, the Broncos released him, and he subsequently signed one-year contracts with the Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Giants.

All of those contract figures come from Spotrac, which also lists Wilson's career earnings at about $316 million -- fourth all-time in the NFL.

Amid allegations of sexual improprieties with more than 20 massage therapists who filed suit against him, Watson got his wish to be traded by the Houston Texans. On March 18, 2022, the Texans sent Watson and a future fifth-round draft pick to the Browns for a package of three first-round draft picks, a third-round selection and a fourth-rounder.

Watson is entering the final season of the contract and will become a free agent at the end the league year. The Browns have reworked the deal several times to give them salary cap wiggle room, but he still will wind up with the full amount.

Because of suspension and injuries, Watson, 30, has appeared in just 19 games over four seasons with the Browns and has a 9-10 record. With those seasons worth $184 million, he has earned nearly $9.7 million per game.

The Nashville Predators hope a return home for the final three games of the regular season will be enough to sneak them back into the Stanley Cup Playoffs after missing out last season.

The Predators are one point out of the final wild-card spot in the Western Conference heading into their next matchup on Saturday afternoon against the visiting Minnesota Wild.

Nashville (37-32-10, 84 points) lost its grip on the second wild-card spot when it lost 4-1 at the Utah Mammoth on Thursday to finish 3-2-1 on the six-game road trip, which began against the Tampa Bay Lightning before heading out West.

"We had a heck of a road trip, playing good hockey," Predators coach Andrew Brunette said. "Even (against Utah), we did enough to at least get something out of this game and, unfortunately, we didn't. Mindset has to be to get something on Saturday."

The Predators received some concerning news before the game against the Mammoth when Roman Josi was scratched after warmups because of an upper-body injury.

Josi is not only the team captain and top defenseman, but he's fourth on the team in scoring with 54 points (13 goals, 41 assists).

He's listed as day to day, but the Predators might not have many days left.

Jordan Oesterle, 33, took Josi's place against the Mammoth in his first game this season for Nashville.

"He's impossible to replace," Brunette said of Josi. "I thought the kids played well. (Oesterle) came in and gave us some good minutes and (Ryan) Ufko's getting better every game, and it's nice to see (Adam Wilsby). There is more ice time for them. I thought they handled it pretty well."

Minnesota clinched a playoff spot on April 2. The only thing left to be settled is whether the Wild or the Dallas Stars will have home-ice advantage in their first-round series.

Minnesota (45-22-12, 102 points) missed a chance to pull even in points with the Stars in the Central Division on Thursday when it lost 5-4 in Dallas, dropping four points behind the second-place Stars with three games left for each and Dallas holds the tiebreaker.

The Wild and Stars split their four regular-season meetings.

"I think there's lots we can take from this one, for sure," Wild coach John Hynes said after the loss. "Every time ... these two teams play each other, it's always a hard-fought battle. (On Thursday), you saw some emotion in the game and I think that's to be expected."

After playing the Predators, the Wild will visit the St. Louis Blues on Monday and close out the regular season against the visiting Anaheim Ducks on Tuesday.

Wild forward Kirill Kaprizov has 45 goals on the season, two off his career high set in 2021-22. A new career high would be a nice achievement for the 28-year-old Russian, but he also hopes to win the final three games and build some momentum heading into the series against Dallas.

"We just keep going," Kaprizov said. "We still have a couple of games left and just keep playing. ... It's always an exciting time. It's the best time of the year. We still have a couple of games left and want to focus on those games. If we play Dallas (in the first round), we just have to be ready."

The Atlanta Falcons exercised their fifth-year option for All-Pro running back Bijan Robinson for the 2027 season on Friday.

Robinson, 24, is coming off a stellar third season with the Falcons in 2025 when he set the franchise mark with 2,298 total yards from scrimmage, which led the NFL. He rushed for 1,478 yards and seven touchdowns, including a league-long 93-yarder, and caught 79 passes for 820 yards and four TDs.

He will earn $11.323 million in base salary in 2027, the club's option year, according to Spotrac. Robinson signed a four-year, $21.9 million contract as a rookie in 2023 which in 2026 will pay him a base salary of $1.1 million, a prorated signing bonus of $3.2 million and a roster bonus of $2.6 million with a cap hit of $6,986,809, per Spotrac.

"He is one of the best players at his position, one of the best players in the league," Atlanta's new general manager Ian Cunningham said at the annual NFL league meetings last month in Phoenix. "I was excited that I had already had the chance to get to know him and start some dialogue with him."

Robinson was voted to the Pro Bowl the last two seasons, was first-team All-Pro in 2025 and was named to the NFL All-Rookie team in 2023.

Atlanta selected Robinson with the eighth overall pick of the 2023 NFL Draft out of Texas.

He has 805 career rushing attempts for 3,910 yards and 25 TDs, and 198 receptions for 1,738 yards and nine TDs in 51 games (50 starts).

"There's no shortage in what he can do for the football team on the field," new head coach Kevin Stefanski said this week. "But also the person that he is off the field and what he brings to our locker room, and to the question earlier about culture and being a player-driven culture, he's a driver of that just because of how he attacks each day."

The Indianapolis Colts and veteran cornerback Kenny Moore II mutually have agreed to seek a trade, ESPN reported on Friday.

Moore is entering the final season of his three-year, $30 million contract.

The Colts owe Moore $9.49 million in base salary in addition to per-game bonuses in the 2026 season. A pre-June 1 trade would save Indianapolis more than $7 million in salary cap space.

"It's all good. It's all love," Moore wrote in a text to ESPN of the prospect of being traded.

Moore, 30, recorded 55 tackles, two forced fumbles, one interception that was returned for a touchdown and 1.5 sacks in 14 games (seven starts) last season. He missed three games due to an Achilles strain.

A Pro Bowl selection in 2021, Moore totaled 649 tackles, 21 interceptions (four returned for touchdowns) and six forced fumbles in 132 career games (111 starts) with the Colts.

He entered the league as an undrafted free agent in 2017 with the New England Patriots. The Valdosta State product did not make the club's 53-man roster out of training camp. He was claimed off waivers by the Colts and has been with Indianapolis for nine seasons.
