Get to Know the Tennessee Titans 2019 NFL Draft Picks

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The 2019 NFL Draft is officially over and after three days, and 254 draft picks later… the Tennessee Titans have their rookies.

1st Round – Pick No. 19 – Jeffery Simmons, DT, Mississippi State

Jeffery Simmons (6’4, 301) of LaSalle Parish, LA was considered a 5 start prospect coming out of high school (Noxubee County, MS) and committed to Mississippi State in 2016. As a true freshman, Simmons played in 12 games before having breakout season in 2017 that led him to a First-Team All-SEC selection. In 2018, Simmons had another outstanding year as a junior that led him to another First-Team All-SEC selection with 63 total tackles (18 for a loss), 2 sacks and 1 forced-fumble. On December 20, 2018, Simmons declared for the 2019 NFL Draft.

However, on February 12, 2019, Simmons suffered a torn ACL in his left knee during training leading up to the NFL Draft. Before the injury, many people believed that Simmons would have been a top five pick in the Draft. Simmons won Mississippi State’s Newsom Award in 2017 for his work on the field, in the community and the classroom. He was named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll.

Simmons had 163 career tackles at Mississippi State (33.5 for loss) with 7 career sacks and 5 forced-fumbles (2 recovered).

On April 25, 2019, The Tennessee Titans selected Simmons with the 19th overall pick of the 2019 NFL Draft in Nashville.

2nd Round – Pick No. 51 – A.J. Brown, WR, Ole Miss

Authur “AJ” Brown (6’0, 226) of Starkville, MS was considered a 4 star recruit coming out of high school (Starkville) and committed to Ole Miss over hometown school of Mississippi State in 2016. Brown was drafted in the 19th round of the 2016 MLB Draft by the San Diego Padres as an outfielder and signed with the team. Brown has participated in the Padres extended team practices over the last 3 summers. As a freshman, Brown played in every game for Ole Miss football and finished the season with 29 receptions, 412 yards and 2 touchdowns. In 2017, Brown had a breakout year as a sophomore for the Rebels that earned him Third-Team All-American and First-Team All-SEC honors with 75 receptions, 1,252 yards and 11 touchdowns. Brown was also awarded the Conerly Trophy in 2017 (best college football player in the state of MS). In 2018, Brown led the team again in receiving and broke his previous school record with 85 receptions, 1,320 yards and 6 touchdowns. Brown was awarded First-Team All-SEC honors for the second year in a row. After the 2018 season, Brown decided to forego his senior season and enter in the 2019 NFL Draft. He finished his college career with 189 receptions, 2,984 yards and 17 touchdowns at Ole Miss. Brown was invited to the 2019 NFL Combine where he ran a 4.49u 40 yard dash, bench pressed 19 reps of 225, a 36.5 vertical jump and a 120.0 inch broad jump.

On April 26, 2019, The Tennessee Titans selected AJ Brown with the 51st overall pick of the 2019 NFL Draft in Nashville.

3rd Round – Pick No. 82 – Nate Davis, OL, UNC-Charlotte

Nate Davis (6’3, 316) of Ashburn, VA earned first team all state honors while at Stone Bridge High School and was recruited by Virginia and Charlotte. Davis chose to play at Charlotte in 2014 and became an instant starter at the offensive guard position where Davis played at in 2015 and in 2016, 2017 earning honorable mention All-Conference USA status.  In 2018, Davis was moved to offensive tackle for Charlotte where he earned Second-Team All-Conference USA honors. Davis finished his college career as a 4 year starter and named Charlotte’s best offensive player of 2018. He was invited to the Senior Bowl and 2019 NFL Combine where he ran a 5.23u 40 yard dash and bench pressed 23 reps of 225lbs.

On April 26, 2019, the Tennessee Titans selected Nate Davis with the 82nd pick of the 2019 NFL Draft in Nashville.

4th Round – Pick No. 116 – Amani Hooker, S, Iowa

Amani Hooker (6’0, 210) of Minneapolis, MN was a Mr. Football finalist coming out of high school (Park Center Senior HS) in 2015 before committing to Iowa. As a true freshman, Hooker played in every game (mainly on special teams) before becoming a full time starter his sophomore year in 2016. In 2016, Hooker played at both free and strong safety where he recorded 56 tackles and 2 interceptions (1 returned for a touchdown). In 2018, Hooker was named Tatum-Woodson Defensive Back of the Year in the Big Ten, and awarded First-Team All-Big Ten and Second-Team All-American honors. He finished his senior year with 65 tackles (3.5 for a loss), 1 sack, 4 interceptions, 7 passes defended and a safety. After his junior year, Hooker decided to forego his senior season to enter the 2019 NFL Draft. He was invited to the 2019 NFL Combine where he ran a 4.48u 40 yard dash, bench pressed 14 reps of 225lbs, 37 inch vertical jump, 123 inch broad jump, 6.28 3 cone drill, a 4.1 20 yard shuttle and a 11.59 60 yard shuttle.

On April 27, 2017 the Tennessee Titans traded with the New York Jets to select Amani Hooker with the 116th pick of the 2019 NFL Draft in Nashville.

5th Round – Pick No. 186 – D’Andre Walker, OLB, Georgia

D’Andre Walker (6’3, 245) of Fairburn, GA was a top 100 recruit out of high school (Langston Hughes) and committed to Georgia in 2015. Walker was not named a started until his senior year but played and was productive in each of his 4 seasons. As a true freshman, Walker recorded 9 tackles and a half sack. During his sophomore year, he recorded 19 tackles (2.5 for a loss). However, Walker broke out his junior year and recorded 39 tackles (13.5 for a loss), 5.5 sacks and 1 forced fumble. Because of his production as junior, Walker was named a starter his senior year where he led the team 11 tackles for a loss with 7.5 sacks and 4 forced fumbles.

On April 27, 2019 the Tennessee Titans selected D’Andre Walker with the 186th pick of the 2019 NFL Draft in Nashville. Announcing his pick was Christion Abercrombie, who so happened to grow up playing youth football together in Georgia. Abercrombie suffered a life-threatening injury while playing linebacker for TSU against Vanderbilt but has since made a remarkable recovery.

6th Round – Pick No. 188 – David Long Jr., LB, West Virginia

David Long Jr. (5’11, 227) of Cincinnati, OH (Winton Woods High School) committed to West Virginia in 2015 but was redshirted his freshman year. In 2016, Long played in 12 games and recorded 63 tackles (4.5 for a loss) and 2 sacks. In 2017, despite a knee injury to start the season, Long won the team’s Defensive Player of the Year award and a All-Big 12 honorable mention for his production (75 tackles (15.5 for a loss), 3.5 sacks and a fumble recovery) in only 9 games. In 2018, Long was named Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year, First-Team All-Big 12 and Second-Team All-American honors with 108 tackles (19.5 for a loss), 7 sacks, 2 forced fumbles (1 recovered). In December 2018, Long announced that he would forego his final year of eligibility to enter the 2019 NFL Draft.

On April 27, 2019 the Tennessee Titans selected David Long Jr. with the 188th pick of the 2019 NFL Draft in Nashville.
